Located in Laukariz, the Palace
was entirely rebuilt in 2004 and 2005 after a lengthy and
complicated identification and classification of all the stones
that composed the original building. The construction of
the highway Bilbao - Behovia led to the confiscation of the
land and the imminent destruction of the Palace, which was then
located in Galdakao. Don José María Solano, whose
family has always owned this stately home, decided to take it
down stone by stone, all of which were duly numerated.
The hangar where the stones were carefully
stored was devastated by the terrible floodings of 1983 and
part of the numbers on the stones, as well as the plans detailing
the location of each stone, were lost or erased by the water.
A very long and complicated study of all the stones
was necessary in order to recompose this gigantic puzzle and
rebuild it in order to convert it into what is today Palacio
Urgoiti. This 17th century home has been rebuilt following
the original style and layout of the palace and using many
of the original doors and other decorative elements.
